- We cretated a new tree in CVS to clean up the current mess of gxsnmp. The command to checkout the new tree of gxsnmp would be:

- The core componets of GNOME have been frozen, (gtk+ glib gnome-libs), so a new snapshot based on this should be forth coming time permitting.

- Network discovery has been started to implement. Another new feature is a new host setup panel with support for IPX and IPv6 as SNMP transport protocol.

The registration is opened! Whoever wants to register a SNMP MIB for any Gnome related project, please let us know. Things that come to my mind include a MIB for MRTG configuration or a MIB for isdn4linux.

- gxsnmp 0.0.8 is out! See the download section how to get the new version. This version has gone through major enhancements in the GUI area. This version needs gnome 0.20 and gtk 1.0.4 or 1.1 to compile. To have database functionality, currently only mysql is supported. You must have mysql installed.

- I've created a new snapshot of gxsnmp based on the current CVS. I hope it works with the RH gnome libraries as someone apparently already changed some important bits of the Gnome library in between.

- Red Hat 5.1 will contain a snapshot of the current Gnome project including gxsnmp. The release is scheduled to arrive on June 1st. We hope that Gnome will become more stable after this release so we can provide tarballs of current gxsnmp versions again. Currently, gxsnmp depends on the current Gnome snapshot and will not work with the latest alpha release.

- Gxsnmp now supports community based SNMPv2 (SNMPv2c).

- Gus Estrella provided a design document about network discovery. gxsnmp is currently undergoing a redesign of the SNMP code. Once this is finished, we should see more visible enhancements of the application

- merge of gnetman with gxsnmp is completed. The collector now uses a different SNMP library which is GPL'ed and seems to be better designed.

- gnetman and gxsnmp have been merged. The MIB browser is already part of gxsnmp. The collector will follow as soon as some design decisions concerning the SNMP libary have been made.
